The URS thesis is the culminating scholarly product of the Undergraduate Research Scholars Thesis Program. While the content, organization, and conventions of each thesis will reflect the student’s discipline and project, all URS theses must also meet program requirements for preparation and submission.
Faculty advisors provide disciplinary guidance and determine what constitutes appropriate scholarship within their field. The Office of Undergraduate Research provides the templates, formatting requirements, and program guidance students need to prepare their thesis for URS submission.
Accessibility
URS theses become part of the university's scholarly record, and accessibility should be considered throughout document preparation rather than only at final submission.
Using the current URS templates provides an important starting point. Students should also follow provided guidance for elements such as heading structure, tables, figures, images, links, and other document content that may affect accessibility.
Faculty advisors are not expected to conduct a technical accessibility review of the thesis. Students are responsible for following the accessibility and formatting guidance provided by UGR.

Research Integrity and Responsible Scholarship
Responsible Conduct
Students are expected to follow applicable university, disciplinary, and research-group expectations related to responsible research and scholarly conduct. Depending on the project, this may include appropriate treatment of data, documentation of methods, attribution of sources and contributions, human- or animal-subject requirements, confidentiality, intellectual property, or other research responsibilities.
For students working within collaborative research environments, the thesis should clearly situate the student's work within the larger project and accurately describe their individual contribution.
Faculty advisors should contact UGR when questions about a student's contribution or the appropriate representation of collaborative work may affect URS requirements.
Citation and Reference Practices
Students should follow citation and reference practices appropriate to their discipline and use them consistently throughout the thesis.
Faculty advisors are best positioned to guide students in selecting and applying disciplinary citation practices, including expectations that may differ among fields or types of scholarly work. Students are responsible for accurately representing the sources, ideas, data, methods, images, and other work on which their thesis relies.
URS formatting requirements should be consulted for any program-specific requirements affecting the presentation of references within the thesis.
