Bio: Hello! My name is Nikhil Murali, and I am a Molecular and Cell Biology major from Katy, Texas. Upon graduating, I plan to pursue a PhD in cancer biology and eventually run my own lab.
In my freshman year, I had the incredible opportunity to pursue cancer research under Principal Investigator Dr. Tapasree Roy Sarkar. I began working under PhD Candidate Olajumoke Ogunlusi, researching the impacts of circadian rhythm disruption on tumor progression, morphology, and tumor microenvironment. I am also currently investigating the effects of polyethylene microplastics on triple-negative breast cancer tumorigenesis.
Being involved in research has been one of the most rewarding parts of my undergraduate experience. Since joining Dr. Sarkar's lab, I have not only become proficient in various lab techniques from cell culture to data analysis, but also been fortunate to work with some of the most intelligent and supportive people on various different projects. The interpersonal and analytical skills developed through research carry benefits far outside the lab, and as an Undergraduate Research Ambassador, I hope to connect other students across all different disciplines to opportunities to get involved in research regardless of their individual career goals.
