Are you interested in research? Are you considering graduate or professional school? Are you independent, motivated and committed to projects you undertake? If so, you may want to consider the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program.
The Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research has announced an extended call for proposals for the 2009-10 Undergraduate Research Scholars Program. If you are a student with junior or senior standing, and if you are currently working on an independent research or scholarly project, you may be eligible to apply.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.
Overview & Benefits of the Scholars Program
- Provides an opportunity to actively participate in an independent research project under the guidance of a faculty member
- Provides an opportunity to communicate your research as an author to the research community. The program culminates in the submission of an undergraduate thesis, which is deposited into the Research Scholars Theses collection in the repository through Texas Digital Libraries (TDL)

- Makes you more competitive for national fellowships
- Provides great experience in preparing you for graduate or professional school
- Provides an opportunity to earn 1 hour of “W” (writing credit) within your major
- Provides $300 in reimbursement to be used for travel or research-related expenses
- Students also receive a diploma-like certificate upon completion of the program at an awards ceremony in May.
