This Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site, funded by the National Science Foundation, offers undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in ongoing research with faculty members. The program spans eight (8) summer weeks and involves undergraduate students from Texas A&M and other colleges and universities. While the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering is the home for this REU Site, the research projects are interdisciplinary in nature, so we welcome applications from students in related disciplines such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, and the physical sciences.

Summer 2006 will mark the beginning of a new undergraduate research program in the Aerospace Engineering Department at Texas A&M University, a summer REU Program (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) with funding provided by the National Science Foundation. The program, funded by the National Science Foundation, focuses on interdisciplinary projects in biological, environmental, and materials chemistry. In our program, students become full members of a research group, carrying out fundamental research on topics that span the chemical sciences

During the summer, students work closely for 10 weeks with a faculty mentor and conduct independent research projects in areas including biochemical analyses, DNA sequencing and extraction, analysis of gene expression, molecular marker development, physiological and toxicological bioassays, and stereomicroscopy, compound microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Students will also gain experience in applying research results to practical problems while conducting their research projects in their faculty mentor’s laboratory.
