Admissions

by matt_voss last modified 2008-02-07 1356

A few REU programs choose to enroll students as conference participants instead of admitting them to Texas A&M as non-degree seeking students. The majority of REU programs admit their participants to the university as U0 (non-degree seeking) students. The advantages of admitting students are access to summer school housing and campus facilities such as the libraries and the Student Rec Center, and receipt of a 1 hour credit, such as a 485 course, transferable to the students’ home institutions. The cost of in-state tuition and fees for Summer 2008 will soon be available online. To check the cost of current tuition and fees, visit the website of the Division of Finance at Texas A&M University.

The sooner your students complete the admission process the better. It is important to keep in mind that on-campus summer school housing cannot be arranged until students are admitted to the university. Be sure to contact the Office of Admissions and Records or view their website (http://www.tamu.edu/admissions/) for application deadlines.

Students can either fill out a general application on the ApplyTexas website (https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/gen/c_start.WBX) or they can download and fill out the Summer Transient Student Application (http://admissions.tamu.edu/forms/spclSummerProg.pdf). It is recommended that students use the Summer Transient Student Application because turnaround time is quicker than using the ApplyTexas application.

To expedite the application process, it is also recommended that the REU Program Director collect all of the students' application materials and then submit them at the same time to the Office of Admissions and Records. Application Materials include:
1. Summer Transient Student Application
2. Official Transcript from last school attended
3. Application fee
4. Non-degree statement (can be waived when applications are being submitted by the REU Program Director)

The application fee can be waived as well if the program meets certain criteria. Click here to download form.
